Do you spend more time talking about doing something rather than actually doing it?
I am notorious for this.
I get so caught up on the big ideas that I have and what it’s going to be like when I get there. I envision myself at the finish line. This tends to make me feel like I’ve already achieved it, which leads to me not doing anything to work towards it.
I’ll sit there and tell myself, “I’ll get there, I just have to be patient”. In reality though, it won’t happen while I’m sitting around doing nothing.
I have done this more times than I care to admit.
Heck, I did it with this post. I opened this blank page on word at 10 AM. I titled it “Stop Thinking About It and Do It”, then left.
I told myself, “This is going to be such a great post”, but it wasn’t, and that’s because it wasn’t written.
It’s now 7:18 PM and in reality, this post is pretty lackluster.
Here’s a frog in a party hat to spruce it up.
I spent 9 hours and 8 minutes thinking about writing this post, rather than actually writing it.
If I wouldn’t have sat down to write it, you would not be here reading it. Which means I get to look at an empty space when I look at how many people viewed this post.
It doesn’t matter how great an idea is if it isn’t executed upon. I bet there are millions of people that come up with million dollar ideas every day, but it doesn’t matter because they don’t act on them.
Don’t fall into the easy trap of living in a fantasy. It’s good that you’re dreaming about reaching out for a goal of yours and picturing yourself getting there. If you can do this, then you’re doing better than all the pessimists out there.
After dreaming about your goal and the rewards that it will bring, snap yourself out of it and get to work.
Only you can make it happen. No one will do it for you, and it surely won’t just happen with no effort put in.
If you can dream it, you can do it. Just put in the work.
