The New Pre-Gaming Ritual

You always have to pre-game before the party starts.

Xander’s birthday is coming up at the end of November, and we’ve been pre-gaming it up.

Forget the vodka, tequila, and crown, I’m talking about some real pre-game. I’ve got decorations, presents, and pictures!

That’s way cooler anyway right?

I just finished putting together Xander’s big present from myself, and it is a beauty.

Can you say, “Baby swag”?

He loves to be pushed on his smaller ride on, but he’s outgrown it. He loves to ride on all the cool electric baby vehicles too, but he’s too young to drive them.

If I remember correctly, they don’t start giving babies licenses to drive those things until they can say “Yee-Haw”. So his own electric car is out of the question.

I’ve been debating on what to get Xander for his first birthday and had finally decided that this foot to the floor Mini Coup was perfect for him.

It was a tough choice though. He already has every toy a 1 year old could possibly want. You name it, and my mom has probably passed it down from my 1 ½ year old brother, to Xander.

It’s one of the many benefits of having children the around the same time as your parents. The weirdness quickly fades once you see all the money you save on baby clothes, toys, and food.

I’ve spent a lot of time looking and pondering on what exactly I wanted to get him, and I’m pretty happy with the result. I’m confident that he’s going to love it.

Along with putting finding and putting together his big present comes pictures!

No pre-game is successful without some super cool pictures to remember the times before the big moment.

Luckily enough, a good friend of my mom’s got into photography right before Xander was born. She’s usually more than happy to help us snap some awesome moments of Xander or my little brother Kash.

I’ve never actually been into photography before becoming a dad. However, I’ve already turned into one of those parents that take pictures of everything.

I know just how faulty memory is from studying psychology. So, I can’t rely on my memory to see that 10/10 smile of his long after he’s grown into it.

What I really want to do though is vlog every moment I can with him so we’ll never forget a moment together. Long after I’m gone, he’ll still be able to look back at whatever we record. So in a way, he’ll always have me there with him.

I’m side tracking though, here’s his practice shot for the big day.

He picked up the fact that he’s supposed to go in face first pretty quick. Bonus points for the thumbs up to let us know that the cake was delicious.

It was definitely a proud dad moment. I might have to show him how it’s really done on the big day though.

There’s going to be cake everywhere…

Now that the big things are done and taken care of, we just have to decorate the place and our new pre-game ritual will be completed.

I’m excited to see what kind of shenanigans he can get himself into for the next year. Regardless, I’m going to make sure to slow down and enjoy it while he’s still this young. It seems like I met him for the first time yesterday.

Stay awesome
