Your community will have a huge impact on your children as they grow.
This is why you need to be helping the community become a better place!
Who do you think is going to be around your child for a large portion of time during their childhood?
It’s going to be teachers, friends, coaches, or maybe even bosses.
In my personal example, the people that were around me while growing up, were coaches and friends.
It wasn’t until recently that I realized this. So, this got me thinking. If I can become a coach, will the children I teach coach my son and teach him the same lessons I teach them?
So, for example, if I teach little Timmy about respect, then he should turn around and teach my son Xander about respect as well right? It’s almost like compounding interest in the form of lessons for your children.
I’m predicting there will be a point where Xander will become much more resistant to what I have to say. There will be a point where he will value his friend’s opinions and advice more than mine.
This might not be true for everyone, but I know it was definitely true for me when I was a kid. Actually, I tended to do the opposite of what my mom told me (sorry mom).
This is ok though, because it’s a solvable problem. Like I said, you can help instill the correct morals and values in their peers by giving back to the community. In turn, they will do the same for you child.
I used to spend a lot of time teaching kids how to wrestle in my earlier college days. This was before I even had the thought of being a dad. I did it because I enjoyed teaching them and watching them progress both as a wrestler and as a person.
I have made it a point to start getting back into wrestling. It’s something I hope to share with Xander one day, and the kids I coach today, will be the ones coaching Xander tomorrow.
There are plenty of other ways to do this as well that do not include being a coach or a teacher.
You could volunteer at events, your church, or to help others in times of natural disasters.
There’s a multitude of ways to give back your community and in return, your community will give back to your children. After all, it takes a village to raise a child right?
So give back to your community and you will see benefits for both you and your children.
